Menoodo builds the digital menus that restaurants share with their guests. This notice explains what a menu records about the people who read it, why, and what you can do about it. The restaurant whose menu you are reading decides what is collected; Menoodo runs the software on its behalf.

What is recorded

If you agree to be measured, we record that a menu was opened and which dishes were tapped. Each record carries a random identifier for your browser, the language the menu was read in, your browser and device type, and an approximate location — country, region and city — worked out from your network address. If you leave a review, we store your rating, your comment, and the same kind of browser and approximate-location details, so the restaurant can understand its feedback and so you can come back and edit what you wrote.

What is not recorded

No name, no email address and no phone number, unless you type one into a review yourself. No payment details. No advertising, no ad networks, and nothing shared with other websites or sold to anyone. Your network address is used to work out an approximate location and is never stored. We also do not fingerprint your device. Earlier versions of this product did; that was removed. The identifier we use now is a random value stored in your own browser, which means clearing your browsing data genuinely erases it.

Why we may do this

In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing is measured until you agree, and you are asked before any of it starts. Elsewhere, measurement runs on the basis of the restaurant's legitimate interest in understanding its own menu, you are told on your first visit, and you can turn it off at any time. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat that as a refusal and do not ask again. A review is different: it is stored because you asked us to publish it, so it works whatever you decide about measurement.

Where it is kept

What is described here is stored on servers in the European Union, run for us by specialist hosting and storage companies. They may only handle it on our instructions, and none of them may use it for anything of their own. Menoodo is a Brazilian company and looks after the service from Brazil, so our team can reach that information from there. Brazil and the European Union have formally recognised each other as offering an adequate level of data protection, and that recognition is what allows information to move between them without further safeguards. The restaurant whose menu you are reading may of course be somewhere else again, and it reads its reviews and menu statistics from wherever it is.

How long it is kept

Menu and dish views are deleted automatically after 455 days. Reviews are kept for as long as the restaurant's menu exists, because the review belongs on it — you can ask for yours to be removed at any time.

Your choices

Open “Your privacy” at the bottom of any menu. From there you can turn measurement on or off, and delete every menu and dish view recorded for your browser on that restaurant's menu. Reviews are not deleted from that screen, deliberately: your browser identifier is not a password, and we will not remove someone's review on the strength of a value another person could guess. To remove a review, contact the restaurant — its address is on the same screen — or write to Menoodo and we will pass it on. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of your data, to correct it, to object to its use, or to complain to your data protection authority.

What is stored on your device

menoodo-consent — a cookie holding your answer to the measurement question. Kept six months. menoodo-analytics-id — a random identifier used to count visits. Only created once you agree, and deleted from your browser the moment you decline. menoodo-session-id — groups one visit together. Cleared when you close the tab. menoodo-viewed — stops a page reload counting as a second visit. Cleared when you close the tab. menoodo-visitor-id — created only when you open the review form, so that you can edit a review you left. Not used for measurement. menoodo-ui-locale — remembers your language choice in the restaurant dashboard. Not set for guests reading a menu.

Who to contact

For anything about a specific restaurant's menu or a review, contact that restaurant — its privacy address is shown on its menu under “Your privacy”. For anything about the Menoodo platform itself, write to privacy@menoodo.com.
